Woldwide Tornadoes--Cyprus
Tornadoes are most frequent in the US, but occasionally occur in other countries. Listed below are storms that are believed to be tornadic.You can read more about worldwide tornadoes in the book "The Tornado, Nature's Ultimate Windstorm" by Tom Grazulis. December 22, 1969
Six waterspouts hit the southern coastal sections of Cyprus, 10 miles south of Nicosia. Several continued inland as tornadoes with damage paths up to 300 yards wide. They were said to sound like roaring aircraft. The Limassol area was struck, specifically Mesa Yitonia There were 4 deaths associated with the wind storms. One person was killed by a falling tree. Others were injured by collapsing buildings. Two hundred homes were damaged to some degree.
