Stormchasing

The main chase season is pretty much over, but chasers are still finding some storms. The tornadic activity has moved northward with the season, so the tornadoes are more likely to be in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

In 1997, we went out with Marty Feely and Whirlwind Tours. You can read what a tour is like and see photos here.

And if you want to find out more about Cloud NineTours, run by Charles Edwards, you will find it here.

The information for Silverlining Tours, run by Dave Gold and Bill Gargan, can be found here.

Note: All tours listed on these pages are run by reliable, responsible, and experienced storm chasers. Although a tour may seem to be an expensive way to begin learning the ins and outs of storm chasing, you are likely to be safer, more relaxed, and will learn more this way than trying to do it all on your own or by teaming up with another novice. If you are interested in chasing, and either want to go out with a tour or begin your education, a great place to start is Allan Rosenburg's Internet Resources for the Beginning Storm Chaser, Roger Edward's Storm Chase Guide from Storm Track Magazine(an online newsletter by and for storm chasers) and Chuck Doswell's Frequently Asked Questions about Storm Chasing.

Tim Marshall's StormTrack Newsletter is on line with lots of interesting articles! Make sure you visit! And if you are seriously interested in chasing, make sure you subscribe!

Although we have put the 1996 Whirlwind Tours "to bed" but they can still be viewed right here, on pages of their own.

Your can find them here:

And make sure you check out these chasers

John Brosio is one of the Whirlwind gang. He is an artist from Pasadena, California. Five of his paintings are available for viewing on this page. You can see some of his originals at the Leedy Voulkos Gallery, at 2012 Baltimore Ave., Kansas City, Missouri.
Can you identify the tornadoes in John's paintings? Give it a whirl!
