Canton Enterprises
Are you a manufacturer or dealer? We are a manufacturer.
Since what year have you been in business? 1985
Since what year have you been manufacturing or selling shelters? 1990
Where are you located? Canton, KS
Phone number (316)-628-4848 or (316)-628-4947
What areas do you serve? Continental United States.
Is your shelter made to be installed above ground level, fully below ground level, or only partially buried? Both. We have an above ground handicap accessible shelter and a standard in- ground shelter.
What material is your shelter made of and how thick is it? Both designs of shelters are 4" thick concrete reinforced with 3/8" rebar.
What is the length, width, and height of the shelters that you sell? Both designs are 6' X 8' X 6'2" tall
Do you enter the shelter while still in the home, or do you leave the home and enter the shelter from the outside? It depends on how it was installed.
How does one access the shelter?
How does your shelter provide fresh air? Both shelters have a 8" turbine ventilator
How is the shelter anchored in the ground? The in-ground shelter is placed 4' into the ground and surrounded by dirt. The above-ground shelter is also surrounded by dirt or placed in a hill. Both shelters weigh over 13,000 pounds.
Was it designed to be installed when a home is first being built, or is it installed on the lot of a finished house? Either. However, if they want a shelter in the house then we need to place it while the house is being built.
How is the shelter delivered, and by who? We deliver and set up all of our shelters
Who installs it? We deliver and set up all of our shelters
Is any heavy equipment needed to install the unit? A backhoe.
What kind of issues with shelter installation are you and your customers most likely to run into in your area(bedrock, high water table, frozen ground etc.)? If a back hoe can dig the hole we can place a shelter there. We do recommend if there is a high water table that we water proof the bottom also. This is an additional $200.00
What provision has been made in case the entrance/exit is blocked by a fallen tree or debris? We do recommend clients treat this like an emergency shelter, and have at least 3 days of water and food in the shelter in case they are trapped for a few days.
Is there a second exit in the unit? No.
Can the entrance door be locked? It can be latched but there is no lock on the door.
Do you have any handicapped-accessible units? Our above-ground shelter has a wider door to accommodate both wheelchair use and walker use.
What provision has been made for seating, lighting, or storage? You get some light through the turbine or we can make it so electricity can be placed in the shelter (we do not wire the shelters).
Are these items included in the base price or are they extra? NA
Are there other accessories and options that are available? If so, what are they? No.
What is the typical cost both uninstalled and installed? The standard in-ground shelter is $1950 and the handicap accessible above-ground shelter is $2250. Both prices include installation at a readied site. There is a delivery fee for out-of-Kansas installations.
Do you have a warranty, and if so, for how long and what does it cover? We do guarantee against leaks for the life of the shelter.
Has your shelter undergone any kind of testing by engineers? We test all of our shelters to over 5000 lbs per square inch of pressure.
What else do you think we should know about your shelter?
