What areas do you serve?
Is your shelter made to be installed above ground level, fully below ground level, or only partially buried? Our unit is below ground level. 29" protrudes above ground. This is where the door is.
What material is your shelter made of and how thick is it? It is a 2 piece precast concrete unit. It weighs 12000 pounds and is bolted together on both sides with steel straps. It is sealed in the middle with a silicone product and is guaranteed not to leak for 10 years.
What is the length, width, and height of the shelters that you sell?
Do you enter the shelter while still in the home, or do you leave the home and enter the shelter from the outside? The entrance is from the outside.
How does one access the shelter?
How does your shelter provide fresh air? Our unit has an 8" wind turbine on top.
How is the shelter anchored in the ground?
Was it designed to be installed when a home is first being built, or is it installed on the lot of a finished house? It was not designed to be placed inside homes or garages, but some people have placed them in a new garage as it is being poured.
How is the shelter delivered, and by who? We produce 13 units a day, 6 days a week. They are delivered with a truck and hoist. There must be 9 feet of access into the yard. It must be 13 feet high.
Who installs it? We manufacture the unit as well as install it. We also have dealers who install our unit.
Is any heavy equipment needed to install the unit?
What kind of issues with shelter installation are you and your customers most likely to run into in your area(bedrock, high water table, frozen ground etc.)?
What provision has been made in case the entrance/exit is blocked by a fallen tree or debris?
Is there a second exit in the unit?
Can the entrance door be locked?
Do you have any handicapped-accessible units?
What provision has been made for seating, lighting, or storage? It does not come with any type of seating. it doesn't matter where they place it. We can pour them with conduit for no extra charge.
Are these items included in the base price or are they extra?
Are there other accessories and options that are available? If so, what are they?
What is the typical cost both uninstalled and installed? The cost of installation depends on where the customer is located. It generally ranges from $1600-$1900.
Do you have a warranty, and if so, for how long and what does it cover? It is guaranteed not to leak for 10 years.
Has your shelter undergone any kind of testing by engineers? No testing has been done. We have an engineers stamp of approval and have been installing these for over 20 years. We have probably over 5000 units in the ground, several of which were in the May 3rd tornadoes in Oklahoma.
